Sibur to construct the largest modern petrochemical complex in Russia

Russia’s National Welfare Fund has allocated $1.75 billion towards the construction of the largest modern petrochemical complex in Russia. The total cost of the project, which will be built by the company Sibur, will be $10 billion. The project, «Zapsibneftehim», will be in the Tyumen region of Russia and is set to produce 1.5 million tonnes of polyethylene, half a million tonnes of propylene and 100,000 tonnes of butane-butylene fraction annually. According to Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev, these are the vary materials that Russia is currently lacking so the construction of this complex will help Russia to reduce its dependence on imports as well as creating a promising new industry and 15,000 new jobs.
